It was around lunchtime when the guys at the Hope For Paws organization received a report about a female Labrador that had been living in the streets for days if not weeks, homeless. According to this caller, there had been several attempts by different individuals to adopt the terrified dog, but she simply did not trust any of them, hence the call to ask for help. Labradors were popular as pets not just because of their beauty but because they could quickly bond with their adoptive parents and were generally a breeze to take care of.
The Hope For Paws team was quick to respond to the caller’s request, and when they arrived at the dog’s location, they saw her resting peacefully in front of a house, just outside the fence. One of the rescuers tried to take advantage of the fence by going to the other side of it and carefully fastening the snare around the dog’s neck, but the dog quickly noticed something was off and ran. It was an area with many spots for hiding, and they didn’t want to lose the dog, so they chased her for several blocks and over several minutes.
After a while, the dog grew tired of running from her rescuers and decided to take a breather by entering a yard and going under the vehicle that was parked there. After getting the permission of the homeowner, the two rescuers proceeded to greet the dog under the vehicle by gently touching her with the snare, and she eventually let them fasten it around her neck. With snare fastened and a second leash, they were able to get her to come out without scaring her, and from then on, it was only a matter of bringing her to the car.
They were able to confirm that she had just given birth to a litter of puppies, but since there was none with her, it was likely that she was abandoned after her puppies were old enough to be sold. Fortunately, it took them no time at all to find a family that would take care of her forever. From then on, she became known as Perla.
