Vanessa Rosales gave the Hope For Paw organization a call to request the rescue of a mama dog and her one puppy who had been living in a trash can fashioned by someone into a makeshift house. They were informed that a house owner had sold his property and left the area for good, but chose not to take the dog with him for some reason. During her life in the streets, she became pregnant and eventually gave birth to a litter of puppies, most of whom had been taken by children living in the neighborhood, according to the construction workers.
Nobody knew for sure how many puppies she had given birth to, but what they were certain of was that only one was left when the rescue team arrived at the location, and the mama dog was not welcoming. Her initial reaction to being greeted and being offered food was to growl at the newcomers, which was understandable since given her past experiences with people. It was easy enough to fasten a snare around her neck, however, and after a few minutes of trying to calm her down, she finally relaxed and let one of the rescuers, Eldad, to pet her.
They decided to stay with the mama dog and her remaining puppy for a few more minutes, and when she had relaxed enough, she even started to eat the food that they had brought for her. After that, it was time to bring both the mama and the puppy to the hospital so that they could both be examined and be given medical care. Hopefully, the kids that took her other babies were giving the young ones the attention and care that they needed, now that the mama dog and the remaining puppy are up for adoption.
They named the mama dog Zoe, and the puppy, Meadow.
