This very small dog had been living in a drain pipe under a very busy high way for months when someone decided to give the Hope For Paws organization a call to arrange for his rescue. When the rescue team arrived at the location of the pipe, they started by blocking one end of it using a plastic fence before Eldad entered it through the other end. His companion, Lisa Chiarelli guarded the plastic fence to ensure that the dog wouldn’t be able to escape, but when he saw Eldad approaching from the other end, he ran.
The tunnel was narrow, so Eldad had to slowly and carefully approach the poor creature, and when the dog realized that he was being cornered into the plastic fence, he tried to get through his rescuer. Naturally, his efforts to escape were blocked, and in his panic, he growled and even tried to bite his way out — thankfully, these were experienced dog rescuers, and Eldad knew better than to let him through. Without anywhere to go, he simply stayed put, shaking, and he continued to growl when Eldad suddenly fastened the leash around his neck, before trying to pick him up with a towel for protection.
He grew increasingly calmer on the way to the hospital, however, and by the time he had received a super relaxing warm bath, they had gained his trust, and he easily received and returned their affection. His days of being homeless and only having the drain pipe as his protection from the outside world were now a thing of the past. The only thing he needed to worry about was how to prepare for his next forever home because there was simply no way he was going back to being homeless — not if Hope For Paws could help it.
They named him Frankie.
